Percy Towns Sr.
Our Why

Our Story
The idea for Towns Veterans Village was borne by veteran Percy Towns, Sr. and his family. Percy served in the Marine Corp and retired from the United States Postal Service.
Percy owns land in Memphis, TN that has been in his family for decades. In the early 1950s, 60s, his great uncle and aunt lived and operated a community grocery store and garden on the property. With his military and professional career, Percy was in service to the people of the United States and modeled a life of service to his children and other family members. His son, Percy, Jr., uncle, Slayton Towns, Sr., aunt Josephine Towns and cousins Larry, Bernard and Alphonso Clark, as well as Archie, Ronald and Slayton Towns, Jr, also served in the military. It is the desire of Percy and his family to continue their legacy of service through Towns Veterans Village.
They believe that the selfless decision made by veterans to serve their country makes them a truly deserving constituency. Homelessness and hunger are just two challenges faced by those who’ve served in the U.S military.

Towns Veterans Village is a proposed development that will offer affordable housing, a veteran's memorial, and other constituent services such as job planning and placement, health advocacy, and financial literacy, among others.
The Village’s memorial wall will pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate price for their service, including the developer’s cousin, Archie Towns, II. A community market and garden will pay homage to Percy’s ancestors and how they used the land.
